Speaking of things not going anywhere..

....like the out out tops from the other day, my wardrobe essential today is... drum roll..... and giving all those who hate them a chance to look away and log out.....

....DRESS TIME!

Yes, it's something that I love.  We're talking midi and maxi, we're talking print, we're talking possibly the easiest thing to wear.  I appreciate this is subjective but for me - they are.  Throw one on for a meeting or the school run with trainers, ankle boots and a biker jacket - heels for the evening and you're off.

They also work layered with a jumper over the top in this chilly spell we're having.  I know some people layer a thin jersey top underneath but I have to say, I've not had the most success with this.  Doesn't matter how thin the layer, the dress ends up tight on me.  I feel stretched.... So it's a thicker knit over the top for me.

Starting with the new in and first up, this navy beauty from Monsoon.  They call this a maxi but for me - it's most definitely a midi.

Monsoon Print Maxi Dress £65

New in at Topshop.

Fern Print Knot Front Dress £49

Paisley Print at Topshop new in £49 - I am loving the colour of this one.  Knee high boots are the perfect addition in the chillier months.

New in at ASOS.

Sacred Hawk Lace Up Dress £45

And then in the sale at Monsoon... was £75 now £37.50

In the sale at Warehouse - I don't know how I didn't see this one previously..

Star Plisse Midi Dress from Warehouse was £75 now £45

And another in the sale.

Orchid Print Frill Midi Dress from Warehouse was £66 now £25

Then we move onto some more expensive dresses which, if you have an event in the Spring/Summer, are definitely worth thinking about purchasing now.

First up - my favourite dress shop of last season with some great reductions now.  AND 20% off everything in the sale at Anthropologie with the code EXTRA20.

Kilde Floral Dress from Anthropologie was £430 now £199.95   Note to self - although you think that growing your hair and having a fringe cut is a good idea, remember that you look less like this sumptuous model and more like Captain Caveman.  I am reminding you this from experience.  You're welcome.  Me.

Also going to throw in that this one goes in the machine.

And the one I tried on ages ago...

Farm Rio Marilla Maxi Dress from Anthropologie was £188 own £129.95 pre extra 20% off.

However there are some GREAT reductions which means that ones that were once expensive are now reasonable - especially with the extra 20% off.

Rosario Dress was £188 now £59.95

Loren Flutter Sleeve Swing Dress was £168 now £49.95

And two of my favourite dress designers at more palatable prices - Rixo and DVF.

Rixo London Stella Printed Dress from Net a Porter was £285 now £171

And then this dress that I got last Summer which is now a complete bargain in the sale at Flannels.

DVF dress was £418 now £126

This is also an amazing amazing print - it's slightly shorter than the one above.

DVF dress was £440 now £220 from Flannels.

And whilst I was perusing the Flannels site, I came across this beauty...

Isabel Marant Etoile Lyukio Dress £198

Finishing with the one I have on which is now in the sale as well.  I wear the Medium in Rixo dresses.

Rixo London Chrissy Dress was £315 now £189

And here I am in said dress...  I wore with fuchsia boots and a green clutch.  In for a colour clashing penny, in for a clashing pound.

Chrissy Dress - Rixo (aw17)
Fuchsia boots - Mango (aw17)
Green glitter bag - I Know The Queen (gift aw17)

So I am now in the process of deciding whether or not I need any of those dresses - that blooming maxi from Anthro is calling me though... from £430 to £160 (and it goes in the washing machine.. AND it would look amazing with those pink boots I've got on above...not to mention trainers blah blah blah and see what a fabulous job I'm doing of talking myself into it?!).

I am also feeling slightly delirious after my running today.  As I said on my instagram - this "my running" thing is a bit like when you first get married and can't quite believe it.  So you mention "my husband" or "Mrs xxx" at any opportune moment.  That's how I feel about running right now.  Can't quite believe that I am loving it this much and am actually looking forward to going out again on Saturday.  I should probably point out that I have been the sum total of TWICE, so I'm not signing up for the marathon just yet.  But this is from the woman who has always undertaken any form of exercise incredibly begrudgingly.  I do and have to exercise because gravity's a bitch.  Even in Pilates which is mostly lying down (although is hard work and I can definitely see results) I end up thinking - oh how long is left....

But for the time, in genuinely forever, I have enjoyed a form of exercise.  Although ask me when it's raining... Watch this space.

  1. I love most of these, but would love to see some options for those of us of the more curvy persuasion. Though I’m only a size 8, I very much go in and out all over, and suspect I’d look very matronly in a lot of the dresses that look amazing on you more athletic looking types. But it’s hard to find cool dresses for hourglass figures- I’m not into the whole 50’s silhouette and still want to look on trend. Any ideas?

    1. I have an hourglass figure and can recommend the gaia dress in raspberry from anthropologie (although last time I looked it was only available in M), but a similar cut may be available on the site. It definitely suited me and got the thumbs up from the other half. I also found a Karen Millen cardigan to wear with it it that has a V- cut so definitely suitable for hourglass figures.

    2. That is really helpful, thank you.

    3. I would definitely try things that are waisted... a thick elasticated (sounds attractive... not...) waist works much better that it sounds. Or how about a wrap dress.. not old school DVF jersey style but a more fluid full skirt with a faux wrap (like the silk DVf ones above) would work really well xx

  2. Love these dresses, and the note to self regarding the fringe made me chuckle! I treated myself and bought Lily & lionel Celeste dress in the sale - and being 5'11 am really happy that the length is actual maxi not 'tween midi and maxi in that unflattering mid calf areaPlus I took your tip of wearing the Uniqlo jumper over on colder days so it looks like a skrit so it feels like 2 for the price of 1. Thank you x

  3. Lost a lot of my evening to the Anthropologie sale! Didn't get anything but boy are there some bargains there for the right person!

    1. Well yes there are bargains apart from the fact that next day delivery is a BLOODY myth... and as of today, their customer service is currently up there with the WORST I’ve ever received. “Sorry but my next day delivery parcel hasn’t arrived two days later? do you know where it is?” “Errr no”. End of conversation. Apparently If it doesn’t turn up, I have to ring them and ask for a refund. WAY TO GO!!!! Watch this space....

  4. Love the dress you are wearing and think it looks fab with the pink boots. Also great to read you are enjoying your running. You have certainly achieved the runners high that everyone talks about (and that I never did for long enough to achieve ;-)

  5. I too am an hourglass shape and I feel I would end up looking like Holly Hobbie in these (for those old enough to remember!). I agree with the reader who can't find cool dresses for petite hourglass figures, only knee length bodycon dresses seem to suit me which are hard to dress down. Also does anyone have any suggestions for nude tights to wear with these dresses that don't look orange?

    1. Try All saints for more edgy bodycon and hourglass-friendly shapes. :)

    2. Have you tried M&S for tights? They have a range og colours.
As for petite dresses I've found Boden good size wise, not too broad on the shoulders, and sleeves the right length, and even being a 32G, there was enough room for the boobage! I wear mine with flat knee high boots and a leather jacket to dress down, or sneakers in the warmer weather.

    3. That should have read: a range "of" colours! Who'd have thought Danish predictive spelling, can't do English!

    4. OMG I so remember Hollie Hobbie!! I actually have one on a shelf upstairs 😳😳😳 I’ve commented above on ideas for more hourglass, hope they help!

And yes. M&S do amazing nude tights, I will blog on them when I remember which ones xxx

  6. I'm almost ready to purchase the Rixo Chrissy Dress after seeing it look so fabulous on you and others on Instagram! Thing is, the website says to buy your normal size which for me is a medium (UK size 12) but I do have hips, and a bit of a chest, so do you suggest going up a size for this one? I previously had to return the Fedora dress (in medium) from Rixo due to it barely getting past my hips, but that fit was apparently designed to be more slim fitting. I guess my main fear is purchasing the large and then it being too big in the shoulders and back, my most narrow part! Ugh, online buying can be such a b**ch
