Bring out the big guns
So I'm checking the (two) weather apps that I have, approximately every 10 seconds in the hope that it won't get any colder or any snowier next week (yes in New York - yawn yawn I know and huge apologies for being a holiday bore).
We're currently holding at around the freezing mark (ok slightly below...let's not question my definition of "slightly") with only a flurry of snow (she says optimistically....) at the weekend. Details, schmetails, it's going to be cold.
So I think I sort of have the wardrobe sorted (it's ok to take 5 pairs of shoes/boots isn't it?), layers are the way forward and whilst I'm not planning on tramping around for hours outside, I'm more than aware that cold over there is a different sort of cold from here.
Winter accessories are the way forward. I need to properly wrap up and wouldn't it be a great opportunity (it being my birthday on Monday....) to treat myself to one of these that have been on my radar for a couple of years now.
Amazing discount at Me+Em.
Shearling snood in black was £148 now £44.40
I know it's not reduced as much but this one gets my vote.
Shearling snood in mink £74 was £148
Speaking of fur, the other thing that I've loved for seasons now and have never got round to buying is a mongolian collar. What better excuse?
ASOS Mongolian collar in grey £50
Whilst I love the mongolian fur collars and faux fur snoods, it may be more practical to take an oversized scarf which is really a blanket in terms of warmth. There is of course the option of the wool blanket cape cover up thingies but I've tried those and whilst they look fab on other people, I merely look as if I'm just missing a basket of heather and a small stooge child as an extra accessory. I don't care if it may be channelling Burberry, on me, it's more scary lady on Oxford Street hassling the tourists. I'll stick with what I know - the blanket sized scarf worn as a scarf.
ASOS Oversized navy pinstripe scarf - £18
Or a Check version £18
Simply love the camel and grey version £18
Although if I'm doing a black and camel combo, I'm quite liking this grey herringbone one - this is gorgeous and would double up as the perfect blanket on a plane.
ASOS oversized herringbone scarf £20
No, on second thoughts, this has to be the one. Love this, oh I simply LOVE it.
ASOS Oversized scarf in colourblock £20
Hat wise, I am totally sorted. Yes, I have my plethora of beanies and berets from years and years ago but I am the proud owner of a new hat from a company that are based literally at the end of my road! Two lovely young ladies who have set up Amelia Jane London - and I can totally testify to the fantastic quality of their merchandise. I absolutely love my new hat - those who follow me on Instagram (or know me in real life) will be aware that I have been wearing it a lot recently and it will definitely be coming to NY with me. Thank you so much girls - from me and my warm head.
This is the one I have:-
Fur Pompom hat in ivory £28
It was a toss up between the cream and the black and to be honest, I think I need this one as well.
Black fur pompom hat £28
Pic of me from Sunday at rugby in my hat, another from last week and from today.

So tomorrow I'm off to The Chiltern Firehouse. Too. Excited. And no I still don't know what I'm going to be wearing.... I managed to pick up a new (super cheap dress, like £16 cheap...) which I think I might wear but I'm having a shoe dilemma. I think I'll put pics of both up tomorrow morning on Instagram to garner opinions. Right now I'm on the sofa in my jamas, glass of wine in my hand after helping at the creche at First Holy Communion classes this afternoon and doing tea at home afterwards for 7 kids. Obviously polishing my halo as we speak......

ReplyDeleteI know the oversized scarf is more practical...on the plane, etc but I actually gasped when I saw the Mongolian fur collar...schwoon!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're fab aren't they? But I've gone scarf - I reckon they'll be warmer
DeleteLove the Herringbone scarf! Get one, get them all!! It's your Birthday after all! Too excited for you! Can't wait to hear about your adventures from across the pond! x
ReplyDeleteHave gone for the khaki one - reckon actually that will be better with black and camel.....
DeleteYou can't beat a good blanket. I'm so jealous of your pending trip x
ReplyDeleteEven knee deep in snow?!
DeleteI love every item you've listed on here! The asos scarves are fab! Have an amazing time in New York!!

Had to order the kakhi one... fingers crossed it's fab!
DeleteHi Kat, on a totally different topic, you know those silver heels that were in Grazia the other day that you put on Instagram? They're currently for sale in Office reduced to £27!
ReplyDeleteoh wow - I'll have to check them out, thank you x
DeleteI have a Mongolia fur collar that I was bought for Christmas before last. Mine is black with grey/white tips from Pure. It is extremely warm! But super fluffy (think mohair/angora fluffy). If I didn't have one already I would be very tempted by the me & em or asos ones. They really add something to an outfit.
ReplyDeleteThe furry pompom hat is lovely too. Warm and stylish.
oh that sounds lovely x
DeleteI've got two faux fur snoods, and they've been my warmest scarves this winter. I've got a creamy one from Nordstrom (bought in the US last summer!) that I wear with my sheepskin jacket, and a black one from New Look's sale - bargain at 9 quid.
ReplyDeleteThey sound AMAZING!
Delete...The me and em snood is too stiff hence its in the sale...had to return the black one, made me look as if I was wearing a neck brace...before you order one I would ring customer services! x
ReplyDeleteAwww such a shame. I've gone for the ASOS khaki scarf. It's gorgeous.
DeleteIs that real fur? I hope not but it says raccoon.
ReplyDeleteI hope its not real fur too, love your blog but saddened to see you promoting real fur
DeleteThey do sell racoon ones but the one I have is faux fur - slightly smaller than the real ones I believe but still lovely and furry!
DeleteOh I do love these Pom pom hats, I might have to invest in one! I'm so, so excited to see your upcoming photos of NY as it's only 11 weeks until we go now & I cannot wait! :) x
ReplyDeleteLove mine - and yes, I will keep you posted x
DeleteI wouldn't wear a hat with a real fur pom pom.
ReplyDeleteThis is faux fur!
DeleteI also bought and returned the m and em one. It looks fab in the photo but it's a mean little bit of fur sew together to make a tiny circle. Looks rubbish on. Might as well buy a piece of decent fake fur from john lewis and diy it.
ReplyDeleteoh no that's pants - it looks so great in the pics x
DeleteAll those faux fur snoods are so stylish. I love your pompom hat and your check Zara coat. Your casual outfits look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLorna Mai
Thank you xxx
DeleteThey also do fake fur hats as well, your post reminds me that I got a fab patchwork fake fur snood from ASOS last year thats been in the wardrobe - time to get it out!
ReplyDeleteThat's the one I've got - I wondered why mine wasn't as big a pom pom as some on the site and it's because it's the faux one!
DeleteKat! My pal just returned from NY, she said it was so cold she was wearing three pairs of tights and damart underwear!
ReplyDeleteShe also wore a white circular fluffy, furry head wrap things (not quite a hat? Goes over ears and round your head but doesn't cover top of head? ) and the New Yorkers were going crazy over them.
Take some to sell!
Lou x
I've got one of these that I just dug out! I fear I look like a cheap version of Ivana Trump in it (nothing to do with the fact that's mine from Sainsburys and is actually a bit shit....) I'll pack just in case! x
DeleteHi everyone....just to let you know that Hush have gone into final reductions. Some absolute bargains on the site! Debs x
ReplyDeleteARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH
DeleteAs an ex New Yorker, I can vouch for the circular faux fur head wraps mentioned above; they don't mess up your hair which is crucial! They're a thing in NY. Also, wear stuff you can whip off easily, because despite it being cold outside, the stores all keep the heat cranked up to positively unbearably hot levels indoors, so you alternate between sweating and freezing all day.
ReplyDeleteI will take mine with me just in case even though mine does flatten my hair terribly above my ears! (I must be thinking of a different thing...) And yes I've layers and layers xxx
DeleteEnjoy your NYC trip, Kat. Bring the warmest coat, accessories and boots in your arsenal. They predict a big blizzard from Monday through Tuesday (12-18 inches of snow and high temps in the 20's). They do clear the sidewalks but there can be ridiculous mini-mountains of dirty snow and slush at the street corners, so take it slow and steady when you cross them. Hope you show some of your NYC on your blog.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't write it, could you! I intend to spend NO time outside whatsoever though... (famous last words...!!)
DeleteOops, last sentence should read: hope you sow some of your NYC pictures on your blog.
ReplyDeleteBut of course!
DeleteI've gone blanket...!!
ReplyDeleteNice post!!! Every single aspect of the whole outfit is nothing less than perfect. Beautiful, amazing job!!! And thanks so much for sharing so many detailed photos. I love to wear fur clothes and recently purchased a black fox fur scarf from Amifur suggested by my mom, an online store which is providing a huge collection of fur accessories both for men and women. Keep blogging!
