Belt up

Alas this is one of those occasions when I am in NEED and so you guys are all coming shopping with me.   A virtual shopping trip and this time - it's the dreaded belt again.

I see these on other people and they wear them so effortlessly.  And on me - meh.  It all goes a bit Pete Tong.  A bit Cyndi Lauper..as in actual Cyndi Lauper - that isn't rhyming slang for anything.  Or The Bangles.  Or Belinda Carlisle .

And on reflection, as a child of the '80s, surely that is only a good thing.  Who didn't want to be Cyndi, Belinda or a Manic Monday lover?

I am talking belts that go around the waist (as opposed to ones to wear with jeans).  I have done this before and got nowhere with it.  But after spending the other day trying dresses on - this is a thing.

A thing I need.  It can just finish off a dress.  The '80s do seem to be making a revival and the waist belt is coming back with a vengeance.

The inspiration for the ones I've picked today?  THE most gorgeous belt which - when I first saw it in the shop, thought - meh...  Ten minutes later I was contemplating selling a child to purchase it.  Alas, it is a price I am flatly no way paying.  Not for a belt.  Not unless it came wrapped around George Clooney.

But it does look amazing - I mean seriously amazing - over dresses.  Or skirts and tops...  I know you might think - sweet jaysus, she's lost her marbles - but have a look, go away and come back...

SEE?????  Isn't it the stuff belt dreams are made of (in Nashville?  Yes husband, I can hear you.. NO.  Anywhere and everywhere.  Just maybe not at this price).

Dodo Bar Or Gabrielle Belt £499

Ok how hard can it be to find one of these for a tenth of the price?  Let the challenge begin..

So I think the nearest I've come is at Scotch & Soda..

Hold your horses though... (ok on proofreading this - that is a terrible pun.  Totally non intended!).

Glamourous Square Buckle Navy Waist Belt £10

However I think this is the one I'm going to plump for.  I also think this is the one that I was going to plump for when I first did a blog on waist belts a couple of months ago.  And never bought it.  FOOOOOOL.

I think perhaps it's impossible to emulate the Dodo ridiculously expensive one.  So I'm going to go with something completely different.  Well - differentish...

Star Stud Cinch Waist Belt £40

Finishing with similar at New Look.

Black Eyelet Detail Buckle £12.99

These definitely aren't going to be for everyone - for those of you who are meh about the whole waist belt, think of the money you've saved... TA DAH!

  1. I think you are just going to have to sell a kidney or something - that Dodo belt is just lush! Think I prefer the blue trimming with silver buckle though? Net-a-Porter have a more reasonable western style one by Magda Butrym but to be honest, it doesn't measure up!

    1. I'm on it. I did actually get another one from Topshop which isn't on their website at the mo - I got it instore which I am really pleased with. Gold and silver hardware and slightly less Elvis on a hen night.

  2. I love a waist belt! I need another one! I have a wide leather one though from the 80's that I still adore and wear!

  3. Hard to beat the Dodo belt!! Always a runner up, but belts from Uterque.com are good fun, without the eye-watering price tag..

  4. Oh my life!! I've saved some dosh here I think. I'm a bit too straight up and down to look good in a belt but these remind me waaaay too much of my early teens and every 80's fashion disaster I no doubt stumbled into!
Looking forward to seeing you style them up though 😘

  5. No waist plus burgeoning muffin top means it's a no from me but I do love that sacred hawk one and am ridiculously tempted so it can take up drawer space until it moves it like every other belt I've ever imagined I would wear. Except for one which was a dodgy elasticated on with some kind of insect buckle that I wore a lot. I'm sure it was gorgeous :O I think you'll look fab in that starry one - you are so good at wearing stuff that would make me look like I wanted to be in Def Leopard! xx

    1. Ha ha ha!! The star Topshop one was so not good. My muffin oozed out of the gap between the two buckles at the front. Attractive, not. But I did get one I love from there - really pleased with it!

  7. Don't do waist belts here either, well maybe occasionally but then they tend to be skinny. I do love a belt with trousers when doing a half tuck though. My favourite brand (which I'm addicted to) is Elliot Rhodes. They have loads and loads to chose from, the best bit is you can swap buckles!

  10. A modest Brazilian bikini bottom that cuts across the buttocks rather than under it will not only minimise the bottom but also helps to give it a very attractive shape. If you are considering buying a bikini then a Rio style bikini bottom (thin band or string across the hips) will also look very slimming. Tie side bikini bottoms can work well on women with larger hips, and a string side tie that lies flat against the side of your legs will look great. bondi born
