Dressed for success?

It's time.  We need to talk dresses.  After my supremely successful dress hunt in the summer (by which no-one was more surprised than me), I wonder if I can replicate it with an autumnal version.

What I found worked so well were dresses (and when I say dresses, I do mean one dress that I bought in two colours - cheating really) that I could wear during the day with flats and then dress up to go out in the evening.  Fabric that didn't crease and went in the washing machine were key components.

I reckon the best place to start with the search is looking at jersey.  Check check on the wash and crease free fronts but are there any out there that I can dress down for the day and dress up for the night.

Had a fab night out last night but I did end up wearing my old faithful outfit of skinnies and a tunic top.  Which works, it really does work for me (and it works for most people once you've found the right top), it's easy but it is lovely to wear a dress (which was a convo we all had last night)

So - let the mission begin.  This isn't going to be concluded in one post - dear lord no, there are so so many options to explore but let's get stuck in with jersey and see how we get on.  Most of them here would be great during the day with flat boots, low heeled ankle boots, even ballet flats, brogues or loafers.  Little blazer for a smarter look, cocoon coat or leather biker jacket.  Huge scarf and you're off.  Perfect for the evening with either a large necklace (my fave choice obviously) or huge earrings, cuff, heels (clearly mine will be on an ankle boot) and a clutch.

Starting with a complete bargain from Jaeger (not things you read together v often)

Jaeger Jersey V-Neck Dress - now reduced to £80

And in Black as well  now £99

Whistles exclusively for ASOS £75 I absolutely love this.  Completely easy to wear during the day with thick tights and ankle boots or even biker boots and a little leather jacket.  Straight to the evening with heels.  This could well have my name written all over it.

Jaeger Boutique have a really stunning red (could be burnt orange if you ask me) dress with scallop hem.  Great price for £80.  Not entirely sure it's my colour but it would be making the short list if it was.

Getting slightly excited about the opening of J Crew in a matter of weeks (even though it is beyond galling the mark up over here compared to the US....grrrrr) and as a sneak preview, I love this Zip Pocket Dress £148

Sticking with the black theme, this is a very versatile jersey dress from Baukjen.  Another classic dress up dress down number.

Josephine Dress in Caviar black (also available in sage and a lipstick pink) £99

Now this does break my washing machine rules which is a crying shame but I had to include it as it's just so stunning.

Pocket Swing Dress from Me+Em £198.  A beautiful wool stretch crepe dress.  This would cover so many bases.  I would definitely wear during the day were I to have both the funds and the inclination to get it regularly dry cleaned.  Darn it.  The more I look at it, the more I completely and utterly love it.

A navy option also from Me+Em which does go in the machine!  I personally prefer the neckline of the above dress but a v neck is also a great alternative and perfect for those statement necklaces.

Trapeze Dress in winter navy £98

I fear this from FCUK may be too short but it's a pretty good combo of the two dresses above.  The neckline from the first one with the navy from the second.  Love the drop waist detail.

FCUK Eddie Jersey drop waist dress  £65

Charli is a gorgeous brand which has the most wonderful simple pieces.  Very wearable.  This is a lovely heavy jersey.

Charli Malou Jersey Dress - £89

This in a superbly Autumnal shade of wine looks ideal from Ganni.  And in the sale again.  Love that it's a proper length and not bum skimming.  Fab zip detail at the back.  For me, this would be the perfect Christmas Day dress.  Am super tempted to try it actually.  Ganni is a fantastic Danish brand - this one really is a bargain.

Ganni Windsor Waffle Jersey 60s Shift £72

Finishing with another print jersey dress from Great Plains.

Leopard Love Tunic Dress £55

And in the Charcoal colourway

That is pretty much the creme of the jersey crop although I'm sure there are a couple more I can unearth.  Now which one to choose?

Finishing with my outfits from yesterday.

And my outfit for last night - huge apologies for the utterly pants photo.  Taken at 1.30am after a smidge too much wine.  Much too much of a rush before going out for any of the rugrats to do their photography magic.

Margo boots - Sam Edelman
Tempest Necklace - Stella & Dot
Razor blade bracelet - McQ by Alexander McQueen
Washed black suede jacket - All Saints

I also did have a grey snakeskin Michael Kors clutch which I'd left downstairs.

And today, up at the crack of dawn taking the boys to football (no wet grass thank goodness - astro turf with a handy coffee shop next door) and RR1 to drama.  Then lunch with the family and now back at home for a movie afternoon of Les Mis.  I may have to resort to a cheeky beer for hair of the dog, followed by a Chinese, Strictly and The X Factor en famille.  Pure bliss.  But excuse the rather rough photo.  Saturday slobbing at its best.

After my hideous experience in the Apple shop on Thursday, I had a host of things to do that I hadn't done, so I snuck back to Bluewater on Friday.  A far far more productive trip.  Inspiration in bundles so I am working on a couple of other fab posts with some more must have items for your A/W wardrobe.  Watch this space.

  1. Seriously loving that Ganni dress! Just stunning. However, the stupid link won't work, so I'm off not to google it and see if its stocked anywhere in Ireland. And of course, you're looking fab as always!

    1. How random - link works for me. And thank you darling, even though that last pic, god I cringe every time I look at it. There's rough and then there's me hungover on a Saturday. The shame. x
