It's wedding season (or similar...)
Except I don't have any. I do have a couple of more formal things but *polishes halo*, I already have my dresses that I sorted way back in January that I'm planning on wearing to them.
And you may note that "planning" is the crucial word there. I always seem to find a reason not to wear them in the end. This time though, I'm sure I will.
Famous last words and all that and even though I have my two Self Portrait dresses (the black one from last year and the white one that I bought which will be getting its first outing to a charity night at the theatre in a couple of weeks. I don't care if it's snowing - I'm wearing it) and my Preen Line bargain dress I wore for my birthday party, it doesn't stop me looking. Just in case.
Plus this is a Public Service Announcement. Let the search for the dreaded dress (as, let's face it - for most of us that's what it is.. only beaten by the utterly freaking awful fancy sodding dress. Got one of those coming up soon *weeps*) begin.
Do let me know if you are looking and whether you tend to go top end and wear accessories you've had for years or prefer to get a more reasonably priced dress and spend on the extras.
Starting with one that isn't dressy dressy and I have had on the blog before but I love the colour and the print of it. Plus it's such an easy style to wear. With the right accessories, this could easily become much more of an occasion dress.
Easy Notch Tunic Dress at Boden was £59.50 now £29.75 with an extra 20% off sale prices. Not to be sniffed at... (and this code can be used also for 20% off full prices with free delivery and free returns). Code 5H3A.
Yes this is Boden. You'd never know it, would you? Clearly not their bread and butter as there are all sizes left - unlike most of their sale items which go very quickly. This is an epic dress. If it weren't for the fact I have a chest like Skeletor, I would get this in a heartbeat.
Strappy Lace Dress was £140 now £104.30
Not in the sale but to make the most of your 20% of with an amazing red lace dress also from Boden.
Oxford Lace Dress £169 pre discount
And more red - with a clash of pink and red here which I completely love. I would go to town with the accessories and pile on more pink and red - maybe throw in some orange just because you could. Adore. Not my normal style at all with regards to fit or colour but there is something about this which is so unique, you could really make it your own.
Selina Dress from Boden £129 pre 20% off.
Special seasonal offers at All Saints. Perhaps not your first port of call but I have three black tie dresses and all of them are from All Saints. And all of them at least three years old - in fact, one I bought six years ago (and wore last year again). Definitely worth a look if you haven't before. Not that these are black tie but they're certainly all perfectly occasion worthy. Code for 30% off is SPRING (and worth looking at the leather jackets as well if you're in the market for one... ).
Whilst I am normally a huge ankle boot fan - even I am going to suggest ditching them at this time of year in favour of a shoe or sandal (file that under things you never thought I'd say..)
Adria Dress in Black £108 pre 30% off.
And in the Wren Brown which a khaki/taupe shade £108. Very versatile shade. Would love this with leopard print and black accessories.
Another longsleeved one but I have to say, mostly in the Summer in this country, they're not the worst idea in the world.
Tame Dress in Pewter Grey £118 They also have this in black - can you ever have too many LBDs?
I also love this one but it's not going to be for everyone. And whilst I would say have the spanx at the ready, I will say that All Saints dresses are ridiculously flattering. I know it's hard to believe, as they look like they're made for 14 yr olds, but honestly honestly, the cut of them is superb. They look totally different on although alas, you probably do have to try a couple of sizes on, as in my experience, the sizing is (like a lot of the high street) bonkers.
Edge Dress £98 Adore adore adore this. Even with the boots. By far my favourite of the them.
The discounts continue at Warehouse and this one I have had my eye on and last time I featured it, had lots of positive comments. And now with 25% off.
Applique Lace Midi Dress in navy was £89 now £66.75
Which they also do in a red.
Back to my beloved monochrome. And it has pockets which makes it an instant winner in my book. This is as easy to wear to work as it is to put with super strappy statement sandals for an event (I feel a statement shoe blog coming on...)
Black and white textured striped midi dress from Warehouse was £59 now £44.25
Similar style back in red (and they also have navy and yes, both have pockets too...) - again a bargain from Warehouse. Another great blank canvas to dress up or down as you see fit. (we so need a statement shoe blog...)
Red Belted Dress was £60 now £45
Love the AS dresses,I'm in Leeds this weekend so may go for a mass try on :-)
ReplyDeleteThey're fab aren't they? All Saints at their best.
DeleteOh and I ordered the Boden print dress this morning but in navy, I don't hold out much hope though as I have never kept a single thing I have ordered from there. Sorry I'm lying, I kept a scarf about 5 years ago. x
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean... but their skinny jeans are THE best...
DeleteI love Boden, don't generally go for their patterned stuff, although the odd patterned item has sneaked into my wardrobe. Generally I go for their classic items, and their cashmere sweaters are great.

I have their Off Duty Cashmere jumpers from two years ago and they're amazing!
DeleteOh yes...i am that girl looking for the damn wedding outfit.....seriouly tempted by the idea of trouser suit...as per your Hush blog......as I have so many 'wedding dresses' (as a guest, lol) that have never seen the light of day again simply because I bought them in a panic having nearly lost the will to live searching for 'the one'. Now thinking I might at least wear trousers and a jacket again,,albeit separately. A alterative wedding outfit blog would be very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely one on the offing. Definitely definitely definitely. xx
DeleteBrilliant, thanks x
DeleteBrilliant, thanks x
DeleteOh, just had to order the red Boden dress. It's got mixed reviews, hope I agree with the 5 star ones rather than the 1 star!
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing about reviews - one man's meat and all that!! Hope it works - which one did you go for? The red and pink or the red lace one? they're both gorgeous .
DeleteGreat minds...I was wearing grey with red trainers yesterday, too. I don't have any formal occasions this year, but if I did I would be all over those Allsaints dresses. Gorgeous, dress up dress down too. Love the idea with leopard print too :).
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me about uniqlo fine merino jumpers for spring, 2 have arrived for under £15 each. Perfect! Nice and long in the arms too. I have gone out of my comfort zone of navy and grey for pink and blue. I might break them out today. I would also recommend their cotton cashmere ones as well, really soft and wash excellently.
Regarding holiday clubs for SN, here in Norfolk we apply for something called Short Breaks and your child can attend specialist holiday/playschemes. Their might be something suitable where you are... absolute lifesaver.
OOH those jumpers sound lovely - I really need some shades of spring in my wardrobe and baby blue and pale pink are top of my list of must haves. Although also drawn to yellow.... Hmmmm.
DeleteThank you so so much for that - I'll have a look into the clubs. The problem we have is that - well, like a lot of SN kids to to be fair - he doesn't fit into a typical mould. He's very Asperger's but unlike most, he's very sociable and likes interaction. He's definitely the more manic end of the spectrum as opposed to the introvert.... which comes with verbal and physical aggression which is getting better and worse depending on which way you look at it. I will have a look thank you xxxx
Love the Warehouse dresses. Any ideas as to what to wear as a 'cover up' over them? The dresses always look great on but as soon as I put on a cardi it spoils the whole effect and I HATE shrugs.
ReplyDeleteHmm good point. it's a hard one, it really is. I almost think you have to go bigger - something like a silky trench, or a dress coat? I think we need to channel the 50s as opposed to the 80s of wearing something fitted over the top? Does that make sense? (I can see what I mean in my head.. duh!)
DeleteThose red dresses make me wish I had an wedding to go to, then I'd have an excuse.....
ReplyDeleteAlthough saying that, I wore navy velvet trousers and silver embellished slingbacks for my own wedding, which was in church, with only two witnesses and the choir!
That sounds lovely! Do you not have any other occasion.. dinner out even?!
DeleteWe're out quite often for dinner, but in Denmark things are pretty relaxed, even in the posher restaurants.
DeleteMaybe I'll get my husband to invite me to the Michelin rated place not too far from where we live, that'd be a good excuse for a new dress. Although I imagine the waiting list has increased in length recently.....
Danish Pastry
We tend to dress up here to go out for dinner. Although not as much in the South of England as they do in the North. But yes, we do dress up a fair bit.
DeleteA great selection of dresses, especially the All Saints ones although Ive always felt too old and not quite cool enough to shop in there as my daughter whos 23 shops in there! Im on the hunt for a formal dress as Ive got my sons graduation ceremony coming up in July and Ive got mild panic that Ive got nothing to wear!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the hunt for a graduation dress too! Frantically ordering loads and deciding nothing is quite right... Trouble is I want to wear a particular jacket (my grey Jaeger blazer) so whichever dress I choose needs to work with that! I might have to rethink the whole thing, I want to look effortlessly great and not like I've tried too hard if that makes sense.
DeleteSally you're probably better not trying to do that and just getting something that you love...... otherwise you're going to end up with a dress you don't really want! Or how about trousers....??
DeleteI know.... And I have 2 plans, find a dress I love and just go with it or find something that works with the blazer, that I also love. Not asking for much am I? I have come round to the idea of not wearing the blazer if it doesn't work. And I've just clicked buy on 2 Boden dresses, one in navy and one in a light blue version of the red print you featured. With the mid season sale and the extra 20% off code I got 2 dresses for just slightly more than 1 would have been at full price.... Bargain!
DeleteFantastic! Fingers crossed xx
DeleteYour honesty about school holidays makes me feel so much better about myself....
ReplyDeleteOh and love the red lace Boden one. Need sleeves these days!
DeleteOh mine are too hideous mostly to even attempt to pretend! Although better day yesterday... and today's looking good !
DeleteThe prices were very reasonable, and the flowers were very high quality. I have used them twice now for gf birthday flowers, she loved them both times. Couldn't be better. Bloom Flowers Staff is very professional, and very courteous.
