The times they are a changing...
So today for the first time in forever (ok, so forgetting a sneaky trip last week to London....) I went shopping.
Actually, it's fair to include the trip last week as on thinking about it - that's when the inkling of NEW SEASON started to itch. Hence a stream of random ramblings about my A/W thoughts for this quickie blog.
And here we are - same old same old - classic dilemma of the fashion fan (note I said fan and not victim.....), do you jump early and dive in, sealing your A/W fate by September or do you hold fire with your game face on and wait until later in the season (well - October?) to see if better goodies are around the corner.....?
Well.
I have no idea.
Every. Season. So what have I seen so far that I am itching to buy? First and foremost the most ridiculous purchase for July - a sheepskin gilet. REALLY?!
YES! This was the most stunning thing I've seen in forever. I clearly didn't buy it as it's a fiver off £700. Ouch and then some. So I need to give it some (a lot) of thought. However I have discovered that they're only selling it at St Christopher's Place, Selfridges and Harrods. Oh and online. And large has already sold out, ditto every size online at Selfridges. ARRGGH. Nothing says I NEED YOU like Sold out.
Longline sheepskin Gilet from Whistles £695 This is reversible. It's perfect.
And yes, we're back to my love of last season which I didn't buy and wish like billio that I had done. But never mind - I will be buying this season. Except not from Russell & Bromley as apparently they're not doing the Loden (khaki to you and me) this season. EEK. So that of course makes them even more desirable, especially as they've gone up £25 online at Stuart Weitzman in a week. Grab from Selfridges. I'm waiting for a tipsy shopping moment and then I'll cave. (we all know what I'll actually do is wait until they're sold out at Selfridges, panic like hell and pay way over the odds for them somewhere else - ie from online in the US where I'll get stung with a gazillion £ customs charge. Obviously)
Stuart Weitzman Lowland Boots in Loden £650
To go with the boots and the gilet... I managed to snag in the sale at Zara, pleather leggings. That are AMAZING. £9.99. In khaki and in black with zips at the ankles. Unfortunately not available online. (seeing as I only paid £10 for each of these, with a penny change, it clearly makes perfect sense to spend the scary amount of money on the other things no?)
And to wear with these, I intend to yet again become obsessed with the oversized jumper. Last year I adored these - the perfect every day throw on with skinnies (which we nearly all have already - I certainly have enough to start a small retail emporium) and ankle boots (or knee high... or over the knee? Oh yesh)
I can't wait for the plethora of huge jumpers to hit the shops but in the meantime, this is as good a place to start as any. They call this a dress. Yes. Well. Not at 42 and at 5ft10 it's not. But a jumper for over skinnies or leather leggings, this will do nicely thank you. Love the zip detail.
ASOS jumper dress with zip funnel neck in khaki £45
However we are talking chillier days here and (hopefully...) these are a long way off. (the dilemma of whether to cave now though and risk everything being sold out by October is one that keeps me awake at night. Sort of.)
But I'm still desperate to think all about A/W and come September, more layers are definitely going to be on the agenda and one item I am definitely going to wear is a blazer. I'm going to be all about the blazer. I am sorted for black blazers, I have one fitted (Topshop) and one not (hush) - both of which I wear absolutely loads.
But I definitely need a new navy blazer and the best I've tried on in ages were from Me+Em. Would be rude not to take advantage now that one of them is in the sale.
Darts Detail Blazer in navy was £168 now £84
Another must have item is going to be a white shirt. Loose shirt pretty please - I have pleather leggings over which this would look amazing. Ballet flats or ankle boots. A must.
Double Layer Shirt from Me+Em £88 Size wise, for me, I'd say a 10 is a medium.... Soft, drapey, comfortable, no ironing. Done.
And to go with my new outfits... I have new A/W hair. Ok so new Summer holiday hair.
I've gone short. Not short, short but it's not long anymore. The disaster of my colour fiasco earlier in the year took its toll and my hair had taken on even more of a straw like consistency than usual. And so drastic measures were needed.
And I love it. Amazing new hairdresser who does a fair few of my friends' hair and here I am with my new lease of life.
Black shirt dress - & Other Stories
Black Diego bag - Alexander Wang
Sandals - Forever21
And I am sending back the tan Aquazzuras as, as much as I love them, I love the Forever21 ones just as much. Which were £15....... *polishes halo*.
I may have just ordered some bargain ones from Zara though.. just to see...... And put the rest of the saved money towards my Boot/Gilet fund....
So it can't just be me who's craving all things Wintery at the moment? Anyone else care to share what's on their wishlist? This is, of course, only the tip of my iceberg.
*whispers* I bought my first A/W purchase the other day!! I always leave things until it's more seasonal & they've always sold out by then so I grabbed it whilst it was there in front of me! Hair looks great btw! x
ReplyDeleteWHAT WAS IT??! I am OVER Summer now - it's about the A/W for me.. just as the weather warms up... doh.
DeleteOooh love the hair. This is weird as I was thinking about lobbing mine off to shoulder length so now you're giving me inspiration. Also loving idea of autumn - never like summer clothes as much as cosy ones and I too swear by skinny pleathers with oversized shirts/jumpers always with statement boots, get the Lowlands already!! The khaki is so unusual. Have a great weekend x
ReplyDeleteI"m on it like a rocket later today.... or tomorrow.. and go with the hair. Although I'm sure there will be tears the first time I try and style it myself!
DeleteLove the hair Kat.x
ReplyDeleteThank you darling xx
DeleteOk you have to have the gilet, i got mine last winter with their 20% off ( ils not the long line) but I wore it loads and it will be worn again to death this winter, it's worth every penny....get it you'll live in it !
ReplyDeleteI'm playing chicken with the 20% off voucher... I wonder if they'll still do them at Grazia with all the changes there have been there. I should probably just buy it already!
Delete2 years ago I bought a fake fur leopard gilet in Madrid - it was so hot I had to try it on over my bra only but I love it so much and wear it a lot - go for the gilet if it gives you a spark of joy (that's from Marie Kondo who is the doyenne of all things wardrobe purge related, check her book out on Amazon) Get the autumn things when you see them as they sell out quick and with our crazy retail seasons you have to be in like flyn at the beginning methinks.....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOU!!!
DeletePS it might be because I'm in California at the moment but I'm thinking about a cozy poncho for the autumn and maybe some moccasins - or will that be a tragic holiday buy?
ReplyDeleteoh no I think we're going to be poncho mad. I was a poncho queen years ago and still have some fab ones! And YES to the moccasins too
DeleteRight that's it - I'm on the hunt!
DeleteKat, there's a Whistles sheepskin gilet in the Next sale online. Size small £230. Last year's version but still lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you - I snagged that on Thursday with my VIP sales thingy. Along with a whole load of other stuff I probably won't keep!! It was only a small you're right (although VERY irritatingly there is a Medium not in the sale.) I just think I really wanted the longline one beign tall.. I"m concerned that the shorter one might just make me look like a posh bin man.
DeleteThat ASOS jumper dress is gorgeous! It's such a temptation to make an early start on the A/W stock as some of the summer sales are looking a bit sad and depleted now. Hate having new stuff I can't wear till the next season though so think I will hold off till at least September...if I can! Jane x

And this is the danger... come September I find you might be over the stuff you bought back in July.... but then again there's always the fear of missing out!!
DeleteNot the biggest summer clothing fan at the best of times! Have just ordered a shearling jacket from the Jigsaw sale!
ReplyDeleteOOH is it the short shaggy one? Gorgeous - absolutely gorgeous! And a girl after my own heart for sure x
DeletePlease don't say Summer is over already. I am living in hope that Scotland might yet see some sunshine. I have only sat out on the decking once this year, it's been so cold. I can't bear to think of it being over and another winter looming. Whilst I will love the fall fashion at the end of September, else don't say I need to wear my polo necks in July!!!! Love your black dress by the way. Lorraine x
ReplyDeleteOh noooooo! Hopefully you'll get another couple weeks of better weather xxx
DeleteLovely hair! Some really gorgeous autumn things you have chosen. I saw a gorgeous white furry gillet in topshop the other day, but I'm not sure white will be the best choice with small people around, sadly! I have done the same as you and was browsing zalando lounge for some bargain sandals and have ordered some suede tasselled boots for autumn - in the sale. I don't need them but I love them! I think you will get much more wear out of autumn clothes than summer ones (enables). After all, often you need warmer clothes in summer too...
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely doing some more blogs on winter shoes that we can snag in the sale. It's a genius idea!
DeleteAll sounds GORGEOUS! And dress will be great (and you can always have it shortened more....)!
