I have a cunning plan...

... to lengthen the life of your jackets.  Or even better, to justify the purchase of a new one.  Instead of a new Winter coat (I'm not going to say "as well as" but if you'd like to..).

However my clever idea for today is one that I've stolen from someone else.  Actually it was something that I read last year (so I'm not sure she even still agrees with it, so I feel I am perfectly justified in mentioning it) that Polly Vernon wrote in her Grazia column.  In lieu of a coat, just make your biker jacket work harder during winter with the addition of a fur scarf (pretty sure she put it a lot better than that - it's not verbatim - but that's what I remember).

Genius or what?  I "indulged" last year in one from New Look which I remember cost about £18.  And I still wear it.  I LOVE it.  I ordered a fair few from there (and elsewhere) and what I discovered was that the key to these looking good isn't in fact the fur - these days, even a super reasonable fur is mostly great quality.  No, it's the backing.  A nasty, stiff "don't stand too near a naked flame" satin really lets the scarf down.

Most I tried had that sort of backing but the one I kept (which is also a stripy fur - don't judge me, it works), has a velvet backing which is simply ace.

Alas I can't comment on the backing of this year's selection from New Look, but I would definitely say they're worth a try, says one who is over the moon with the quality of hers from last year.

Navy Faux Fur Stole from New Look £19.99

Although I have to say I do think the mink might look slightly more luxurious.. (that's not real mink by the way!).

Alternatively, if you're looking for more of a collar then they have them too.. I am loving the green.  This against navy or black would be divine.

Dark Green Faux Fur Collar from New Look £14.99

Other bargains I've found at Tesco - yes, Tesco.  This one from Florence & Fred looks superb.  And if not for you, would make a fantastic Christmas present.

F&F Faux Fur Stole from Tesco in cream was £20 now £16

Upping the budget slightly in a different shade at John Lewis.

John Lewis Faux Fur Scarf in Silver £35

And yet again in the green which I am being more drawn to by the minute.

These I have seen in the flesh and can completely vouch for their quality and totally luxurious feel.  I would have said they were a lot LOT more than this.

Faux Fur Scarf in burgundy £55 from hush

In the green

Or the blue..

But for full on luxury in navy, it has to be the one from Me+Em in faux fur.  AND 20% off everything with the code NOV20.

Faux fur Collar from Me+Em £99

And finishing with a couple of off piste numbers.  If one colour doesn't float your boat and you're looking for even more statement, then these are the ones for you.

Leopard.  Need I say more?

ASOS Long Faux Leopard Scarf £35

A smaller collar style version also at ASOS.

7X Faux Fur Leopard Scarf was £20 now £12

Stitches and Pieces Khaki Stripe Faux Scarf £21

Do you have a plain black or grey coat?  (I DO....)  Then this could solve all your problems.

Faux Fur Scarf in multicolour from & Other Stories £39

So here I am yesterday, regretting not having a scarf as it was very very very chilly.  This is the one item I bought from Kenzo at H&M.  I have ZERO make up on here - a total rarity for me...

Red and Black Tiger jumper - Kenzo at H&M
Faux leather joggers - ASOS
Black Double Faced Coat - Jaeger
Black grab bag - Gucci
Copeland Trainers - Air & Grace

So I have had the busiest weekend doing pretty much nothing.  Ever have one of them?  Running around after children, but for once I actually enjoyed rugby.  YES, you read that right, it was marvellous.  Nothing to do with the sun shining, some of my best friends being there and a cold beer afterwards.  I also had a huge sort out of my wardrobe this afternoon which was cathartic to say the least.  I can now see the wood for the trees and have a really good idea of my winter capsule wardrobe.  Not forgetting party season...  I have outfit ideas and present ideas a plenty coming up.

  1. Absolutely, 100% agree - these are the stuff of dreams. But, I find the 'fold into themselves' ones really tricky and am constantly pulling at them to sit right. The long New Look ones are fabulous though (off to buy the mink one before OOS with my 20% birthday gift from them!). x

    1. Hmmm a lot I give to charity but some I think i'm going to get a friend who sells second hand things locally to sell!

    2. I'm the same, most of my old clothes go to charity, I do have good intentions about selling some of the more expensive stuff, but never get around to it. We did have a local store selling high end second hand clothes (they took a commission for what they sold), but I didn't get round to taking my stuff down before they closed! Don't know why I find it so hard, I always send unwanted items back when I've ordered online.

  4. I sell a lot through a local dress agency it actually adds up and I don't feel so guilty replenishing the wardrobe!

    1. I have been completely and utterly ruthless. Seriously, I reckon there's only a third left!!!! That's what I'm hoping to do - give some away but on some of the more expensive bits that I can't justify keeping as I don't wear anymore, it would be nice to be able to replenish the handbag fund!

  6. I got a Helen Moore one and while it's nice I'm slightly regretting it as there are so many other lush ones at less than half the price. I might simply have to buy one to compare :)

    1. Alas I fear it is a case of sucking them to see whilst some might be better, others do feel like a cuddly toy from a jumble sale in the 80s....

  7. I've just bought a lovely two tone one from Zara, khaki green and pale blue - love it!

  8. Love the blue one from hush, I've just returned a hood to Cos, idea is really great as it's basically a hood with a part front and back. It just didn't sit right under the jackets I wanted to wear it with. I think a faux fur scarf might be the answer.
Not that I'll need it this next week, we're going from sub zero temperatures in the daytime, to 10's and 12's. A decent storm proof brolly on the other hand.....

    1. We've had pouring rain last week and yes it's going to be warmer but it's still going to be torrential rain. The cold I can handle - the rain I genuinely just find truly depressing....*sobs*

  9. I thought for a minute you'd lost the plot and it was a blog on furry legwarmers... I bought one last year and think wore it twice as every time I wanted to it was raining. Doesn't stop me coveting another though :D

    1. There is the rain issue.. but as long as it's not a huge downpour and you've not doing a super long walk, I wear mine in a drizzle!

    2. Yeah, I live in Scotland, there is always a chance of a heavy downpour. Especially just as you take the first step out of the house all good to go :D

  10. Have a champagny cream coloured one from M&S which is lovely and soft, and a black stole style one from Topshop which is longer but less useful as it doesn't wrap through. Also two snoods which are way less useful as they bunch up at the neck. Fancy a burgundy one so that Hush one is on my xmas list. Kat re getting rid of stuff - would you tell us what you got rid of - or at least some of it? As a guide to what to get rid of? Also - totally off piste here - want to invest in a parka - but a decent one that will do me several years, in olive khaki or black - do you know anything about Parka London?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Absolutely! I got rid of old jeans that I never wear any more - anything that has a hole in it or is misshapen that I have been keeping for god knows what reason (sentimental, expensive - tis all irrelevant as I'm not going to wear it again), coats that I know I'm not going to wear, regardless of how old they are, in fact anything that I don't LOVE. Old things I've been hanging onto and haven't worn in years but have kept "just in case" (there never is a just in case...) lots of old blouses (I simply DO NOT WEAR BLOUSES!!!), ditto Summer tops that again, I haven't worn for a year. And shoes. Lots and lots of shoes...

Parka wise, I am looking at getting a new one and am also looking at investing in a decent one. Parka London are always lovely definitely!

  11. Oh, lovely furry scarves. I have a few... last year I had a long, burgundy one from topshop, I have a black/grey Mongolian lamb one from Pure (very warm, so only on extra cold days) and a purply-grey leopard collar one. I find them much easier than furry gilets which just look too bulky on me.

  12. I need to do a clean out too! Just keep the things I "love". I have quite a collection of scarves .... love them. Have to try a fur one now!

  13. I got the two tone new look one last year that you posted about, which I love. I've had the whole under cupboard stairs out, only to find it in the spare room, right in front of my face!. It's gone very warm here again, but I'll be wearing it soon no doubt!. Very tempted by the navy new look one, and in the bottle green. Great with a biker jacket, as you said Kat
