Is there a special day coming up soon?
Beginning with M... oh yes a day for Mothers everywhere. A day for a lie in, a day not to have to cook, a day to be appreciated and a day to be spoilt.
And what better way to be spoilt that with a small token of your family's gratitude for how fabulous you are the other 364 days of the year. Or, for that matter, for your own mum or mother in law.
Now I'd be lying if I said this happened in my house. I'm not a huge fan of lie ins. I know, as random as that sounds, if I can hear the kids, there is nothing I find relaxing about lying in bed listening to them terrorise each other/trash the house/make breakfast ie make a mess. And over the years, as most of us mothers have I'm sure, I've managed to gain the same hearing capabilities of a bat. If I'm awake, I need to get up. Or at least lie there and moan about the fact I'm awake (truth be told I'm not exactly a morning person..) Food? Well I love cooking so it's not a chore at all. It would be a total pleasure to cook a big meal for everyone.
So what I've been doing for the past couple of years with some fabulous likeminded friends, is that our gift from our families has been a day off. An entire day shopping, drinking and eating in London - just mums. Immensely decadent and something money can't buy. Then there is no pressure on the family to be as good as gold on Mother's Day itself, I have no expectations although we do always go out for dinner together which is a super bonus.
However I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be making a wish list of things that it would be lovely to have. Things that you wouldn't normally buy yourself and things that you can wear everyday that are super pretty to look at and make you feel that extra bit special inside.
Firstly, may I present Olivia Burton Watches. I have no idea how I have not come across these before as they are stocked in Harvey Nichols, John Lewis and Anthropologie as well as a host of beautiful boutiques both here and abroad. I stumbled across them on Twitter through a fellow Tweeter (it's dangerous that place, I tell you) and I completely fell in love with their watches (you'll see why). They asked if I would like to have a look at one of their watches. Err would I ever?
They are stunning. I have been wearing my Michael Kors oversized watch for a while now. And everyone has one. Or everyone has a different make one which looks exactly the same.
I'm an Aquarius (who admittedly does a great job of being a total fashion sheep a lot of the time but we'll just gloss over that for the time being. I'm sure being slightly deluded is another Aquarian trait) and so the chance of something different to try, I was more than happy to jump at.
And how stunning is this? I am so over the moon with it, I can't tell you.
This is the Large White Face Tan
It is honestly gorgeous. The Husband, who is a total watch freak (and thinks the Michael Kors watches are a crime against timepieces), is in awe. It is large enough to be on trend but has that delicate edge that lots of other watches out there just don't have. And actually, I wanted a more feminine watch again, especially for the summer. But personally, I'm not ready to go back to dainty. These are elegant and beautiful whilst still being the perfect statement piece and having that genuine wow factor.
I'm hoping to go along and see the girls when they move into their new London offices but in the meantime, go forth and salivate over the website.
There are loads to choose from and these really would make the ideal gift, not necessarily just for Mother's Day but for any occasion. Hell just to treat yourself. Others on my wish list (and these are like beautiful pieces of jewellery and reasonably priced enough to be able to have more than one.) would be:-
Big Dial Navy and Rose Gold £72
Big Dial Chrono Detail Black and Gold £125
Animal Motif Black Hummingbird £72
Woodland Chocolate Bee £62
And finishing with possibly my favourite apart from the plain Big Dials is the Woodland Moulded Bee £125
White vest - Reiss
Oatmeal thin knit jumper - H&M
Indigo Baxters - Topshop
Leopard print coat - Fenn Wright Manson
Bella Suede brogues in grey - Seven Boot Lane
Large White face tan strap watch - Olivia Burton
Tan leather wrap bracelet - Mulberry
Leather cuff - Hultquist
Gold Sierra Necklace - Stella & Dot
Stone maxi zip satchel - Anya Hindmarch

I've had the exact same watch open in my browser since seeing it on Twitter last week. Kind of hoping DH will take the hint or take pity on me because I've been neglected recently (lol). I have no chance. You look great by the way x
ReplyDeleteThanks love - very pleased with this outfit. The watch is honestly gorgeous. SImple, elegant yet statement. Go onnnnnnnnnnn xx
DeleteI love all necklaces especially the one like Holly's - my hubby is conveniently golfing in Marbella Mothers day weekend - so no day off foe me so I will be definitely treating myself!!
ReplyDeleteEXCELLENT! At one of my DH's firms, his boss (a woman with no kids...) for 3 yrs in a row put their partners conference (all weekend abroad) on Mother's Day weekend. I did very well!
DeleteThey are so gorgeous aren't they? I wrote one of my very first blogs on OB Watches after my husband bought me one for Xmas - I have the rose gold big dial with the white strap - they are so striking and people are constantly asking where its from! Love the one you have chosen!
ReplyDeleteAbbi x
oh another fellow fan! Gorgeous aren't they. I can so understand all the compliments, they are so unusual. x
DeleteI often wondered where Holly's necklace is from as have always admired it. I agree with you over MK watches, my hubby bought me one years ago, oversized rose gold before the world and his wife had one, I gave it to my eldest much to his disgust, just like his bags I can't stand them now! x
ReplyDeleteoh my god the BAGS. I was in Covent Garden the other day and I swear to god they are so so so ubiquitous. thing is, the leather isn't even "that" great. They're ok but that great big clunking chain thingy isn't for me. I much preferred his ones from a couple of years ago - the slouchy ones? Newer ones, you can keep.
DeleteLove, love , love those watches, they make a statement in a classy way. Hmm good point about approaching Mother's Day ;) I may have to drop a few hints
ReplyDeleteoh definitely do. And you've hit the nail on the head - statement yet still classy. Enjoy choosing xx
DeleteTHey are so beautiful (and my other watch is a Cartier as well which I *may* have mislaid....thank god DH doesn't read the blog so won't know!), I can completely vouch for the quality. Love my brogues, so so so love them. They will be getting another outing today. They are just too comfy. x
ReplyDeleteLove your blog Kat, have been following for a while. Lol at your hubby, sounds exactly like mine, he is a watch freak with three Omegas and he couldnt understand why I bought myself a MK rose gold watch when I have a perfectly classic Rolex! I do regret it now that every other woman has one and rarely wear the MK now. Typically mothers day this year also happens to be my hubby's birthday so the 30th is going to be all about him, think I will have to borrow your idea and have a girls day on the 29th
ReplyDeleteisn't a day out an excellent idea? My poor husband's birthday is always near Father's Day so he gets to share it with himself. ha ha ha. I do still like my rose gold MK but I have to say, this is going to be adoring my wrist from now on x
DeleteHey Kat - why was my comment deleted. Not a crime to not like the watches we can't all like the same things. I'm only anonymous cos I am a complete technophobe! Love the blog though just not the watches xx
ReplyDeleteoh I am so so sorry this is because I (and many) bloggers are often victims of nasty individuals who like stirring up a bun fight over something we have taken time, care and thought to write about. And they're always anonymous (unsurprisingly..) I am so sorry to confuse your comment with that sort of vitriol (it starts off innocent enough but usually more come out of the woodwork and people are rude and offensive for the sake of doing so. They wouldn't say it to my face in real life but feel it's acceptable to say it on here with no comeback. Hence myself and other bloggers, tend to give these people no air time and delete their non constructive comments. Huge apologies that you got mixed in the system!
DeleteAnd no, of course not everyone is going to like these watches - we absolutely can't like the same thing - it was just the way you said it set off warning signals. Apologies again xx
Thanks for the reply Kat! I am a longtime follower of the blog and of you on twitter and pinterest (sound like a nutter now!). Really enjoy the blog and please more of your house stuff please - I love your taste xx
DeleteLove the bracelets you have featured but really love the one on your arm in the pic. Is it one of Susie so so? Its so dainty, would love to know where its from?
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit pictured, I must get some brogues! The watches are rather lovely as well, I am being drawn to the Rose gold with white strap on their site. The blue butterfly one is gorgeous as well.
ReplyDeleteLove these watches, showed my husband and he approves to which is saying a lot as he is an IWC fanatic and looks down on most I show him. Now to convince him my babies want to get me one...a bit of arm twisting but it can be done.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is fab by the way, love how you have been styling that coat, would never have considered it, but it's fab on you.
